What do we do?
RVLogon.com provides wireless broadband Internet access using
IEEE. protocol 802.11b in SW Arizona. Our access points in Quartzsite are at Rice Ranch on E. Kuehn Street, north of the Stagecoach Motel, at the Main Event, on Tyson west of Moon Mountain and at the Kofa Mountain, Desert Gardens and Arizona Sun RV Parks. We also broadcast from Charlie's hill in Brenda, Guadalupe Mountain in-between Quartzsite and Brenda, neighborhood repeaters in Rainbow Acres, Ramblin Roads RV Park in Hope and north of Indian Hills in Salome. The Rice Ranch signal reaches much of the North and West La Posa Long-term Visitor Centers maintained by the Bureau of Land Management.
Please contact us (see Link to the left) if you have questions about a specific location.
Wireless Internet signals are similar to cell phone signals in that their strength can vary widely over a short area and they need line-of-sight. The closer you are to an access point, the better the signal. It doesn't go through trees or dense objects.
How do you get signed up?
First, you need an adequate wireless network connection. In order to connect to the network, your computer needs to have a device to receive and send and you need to be close enough to an access point (broadcasting station) to be within the range of your device. Experience has shown that most receiving devices (wireless cards, Centrino chips, USB adapters, directional antennas, etc.) exceed their stated ranges in this environment. That is, wireless cards said to be effective for 200 feet have often worked from 400 feet and USB adapters rated for 1,000 feet have sometimes worked from well over a mile. Most locations, however, will need stronger equipment than is usually built into laptop computers. If you need assistance with receiving devices, call us at (928) 927-9651.
We have external modems for purchase or rental.
You must have made a connection to our network (rvlogon) to sign up for the service on-line. Make sure you can get a strong connection from the physical location where you want to do your computing. With most computers, this is an informational balloon at the lower right corner of the screen initially and then, with Windows XP, a single computer with radiating semi-circles that remain there as long as the connection is available. Then open Internet Explorer - you should go directly to a screen where you can sign up as a New User. If your computer is set up to dial an ISP when you open your browser, see (*) below. Your wireless device may be able to read our signal but may not be able to send a strong enough signal back when you click the mouse. In that case, you'll need to move closer to an access point or get a stronger device.
The sign-in page will let you choose a service plan and then ask you for information to set up your account and the credit card you wish to use. Foreign credit cards probably won't be accepted because the system can't match addresses - call us for assistance. You get to choose a Username and Password during the sign up process.
(*) In Internet Explorer, choose Tools/Internet Options/Connections and make sure that you have not chosen "Always dial a connection."
